Portego
Palazzo Michiel del Brusà We had the privilege of renovating the Piano Nobile of Palazzo Michiel del Brusà, a Gothic residence of the noble Michiel family. Known as “del Brusà” (“the Burnt”) after the fire of 1774 that devastated much of the building, only its façade on the Grand Canal remained intact. Under the close supervision of the Superintendency for Architectural and Landscape Heritage of Venice, we carefully removed layers of alteration to uncover the palace’s original spirit. Our work touched upon the Portego, the ceremonial entrance hall featuring a gallery, and extended through the Cucina, crafted in green and white marble, into the Salone and Sala da Pranzo, where history and social life intertwine. The Venetian ceilings were reimagined with newly designed bespoke chandeliers, created with respect for tradition. The Alcova and Camera Padronale offer quiet retreat, while the Sala da Bagno was shaped as a contemporary echo of Venetian rituals of care. A Spazio Aperitivo was created to celebrate conviviality and gatherings in true local spirit. The project was carried out with the support of remarkable craftsmanship and design: Tessitura Bevilacqua, weaving exquisite fabrics with centuries-old techniques. Barovier & Toso and Marco Dessí, with whom we developed bespoke Venetian chandeliers. Local carpenters, whose precision shaped details with patience and skill. Viennese partners Kohlmaier Wien, Breitwieser Stone, and Jakob Uhl Lighting, extending the dialogue between Venice and Vienna. Artists Andreas Duscha and ChuniBoyz, who added further contemporary expression. The result is a Piano Nobile where history and present coexist—balancing business and domestic life while honoring the unique heritage of Venice. In collaboration with Andreas Pust and Christoph Wickl.
