Dentist - Hingsammer
Rethinking the familiar image of a dental clinic, HINGSAMMER gently reframes the experience from one of apprehension to one of calm curiosity. The space is shaped to feel approachable and attentive rather than clinical. Dichroic glass panels reflect and refract daylight, unfolding a shifting spectrum of color that changes with the sun’s angle, making light and time subtly perceptible. The individual treatment units are reached through a generous hallway that does more than connect rooms. It becomes a place to slow down, offering space for a rotating art installation that accompanies visitors as they move through the clinic and softens the transition from outside to treatment. In collaboration with Marco Dessí, soft, playful inflatable objects were placed above the counter and along the hallway. These elements absorb sound and diffuse light where daylight is limited, lending the space a sense of ease and softness. The artworks were selected and curated together with Georg Buchegger, forming a quiet dialogue between architecture and art. In the waiting room, a rotating installation by Quirin Krumbholz acts as a subtle timekeeper. Its movement offers companionship while waiting, gently shifting attention away from anticipation. Above the main treatment room, an installation by Constantin Luser is suspended from a thin, almost invisible cord. Its slow, continuous motion provides comfort and distraction, offering something to rest one’s gaze on during treatment. For the individual treatment rooms, Georg Buchegger curated a selection of artworks such as Ana Popescu, Rade Petrasevic and Dejan Dukic that continue this approach, understated, calm, and human in scale.
